! ? SAT out of 1600! ?

So, the college I may be going to said they want your SAT score out of 1600. I asked around and it seems to be that the critical reading and math section is what the college is reffering to. Does that mean that writing score does not matter AT ALL, or what?

If so, I'll just spend my time trying to get 650+ for Math and Reading (total 1300+) & no
worry AT ALL about the writing.. right?

You should still study for the writing part and do your best on it since you might not be accepted into the college you’re referring to. If you have good CR + Math scores, but an abysmal writing score, then other colleges may look down upon your application. It’s always good to have wiggle room.

In the past, SAT has a different format and has no writing. Many schools also do not value the writing score as much and focus on the CR+Math score only. Unless you are only applying to those schools that do not count writing score, your total SAT score (including writing) still matter. As you cannot hide a section score, the admission office may still put you at a lower priority than other students with similar CR+M but better writing scores.
