SAT Physics - October 2006

(sorry about the separate messages)

KE can change too since KE = E - work function, and since E goes up, and work function has to stay the same because it's the same substance, KEmax can go up too

so what do you guys think the curve would be then? Like how many questions can we get wrong to still get 800?

I think the test was DEFINETLY easier than the june one so curve is going to be harsh. I would say 66 = 800 which leaves me at about 750.

thanks ucrotcpaplc.

Anybody remember the stuff from the capacitor questions? Was the last one unanswerable because there wasn't enough information? Also, I think there was a question about greatest potential... I think I bubbled the one that was lowest on the page for that one because it was farthest from the positive plate although I'm not sure if I confused which direction it should go now.

How was the curve on the June one?

I'm hoping for a curve like -12 or something...

the capacitor questions, was it greatest potential, or which one feels the most force? because if it was most force, they all feel the same force.

fahood, for the last q you had to use right hand rule and reverse it, since it's a negative charge (or left hand rule, depending on how you learned it)

i believe it went downwards. can't remember

4 omit and at least 3 wrong for me so farrrr.... =[

I don't think they all feel the same force. F=qE and E is constant, so force is proportional to charge.

what did you guys get for the satellite orbit problem?

the satellite orbit problem about why the satellite didnt crash to earth? i said it was because the tangential velocity of the satellite keeps it balanced with the centripetal force.

for the one with 4 point charges in a uniform electric field, they all feel the same force because q is constant as well... they're four point charges w/ the same charge.

jeez... I really need to read these problems a lot more closely... anyhow, are you sure that the question was about Force rather than potential? I don't even think I remember a choice that they were all equal.

what did you guys get for the one with the acceleration on the earth and moon, how a thrown mass or something is affected?

[edit]
and i don't remember a choice where it had all forces equal either

man...this isn't looking that good and the curve on the january wasnt that good i hear...no one knows for sure but a lot of people, including me, got lower than they expected

well i mean if we all think we bombed it, chances are the curve'll be nicer? I don't know :(

"what did you guys get for the one with the acceleration on the earth and moon, how a thrown mass or something is affected?"
Well... I got it wrong on the test cause I was running out of time but if the moon has gravity of g/6, the max height will be 6 times what it is on earth. To figure that out, you have to use vf=at+vi and d=a/*t^2+vit... or maybe there's a shorter way.

yes, there is an easy way.

mgh = 1/2mv^2, and h = v^2/2g

if g(m) = 1/6 * g(e), then h(m) = 6 * h(e)

the energy method works

also, im having a debate w/ a friend over who read this question wrong. It was the one with the pulley and two masses each of weight W hanging from each side. the system is in equilibrium. What is the tension in the rope? Is the rope the rope connecting the masses (in which case it would be W) or the rope the pulley is hanging from (in which case it would be 2W)? Thanks! :D

hopefully they'll show mercy and make it a normal curve =[

thanks fahood. do you remember what you got for the relativity one, with the spaceship? my last q of the day.. sigh

for relativity i put greater than .6 c but less than c

because you know it's more than .6c since it's .6c to the inertial viewer on earth and you're moving away from it... but it's also less tahn c because nothing can be faster than c.

yes agree with KM000218 there. I just hope I didn't get mor ethan 6/7 wrong. That way I can still get that 800. In my test center, only 2 people took physics as their subject test. So if few people took it, and many messed up, the curve should be good. And I hope it is because this is just so important.

i think it was the rope connecting the masses. i can't remember for sure though. i put W

I put 2W, rope the pulley was hanging from.
