I registered for the June SAT...... but now I want to postpone the exam to a later date. But to my horror, there is no date for me to postpone the exam to! What do I do now? Do I need to write the exam in June??? Plz help if someone has faced this problem before. Thanks in advance.

After the June administration, the SAT is not given again until October–I gather you’re in India, so you should confirm. See

[SAT Test - SAT Dates and Deadlines](SAT Dates and Deadlines – SAT Suite | College Board)

As a very general rule, excepting special admission programs, October is fine for US colleges, including most early decision/action admission schemes. And in fact, the November and December test dates will work for schools that have a January regular decision deadline.

However, it can be stressful to wait until a fall date to test–if you get sick, have a major scheduling conflict, etc., you may end up with only one good backup test date and/or miss an early application deadline. Also, what if you are not pleased with your scores? Again, it’d be stressful to rely on limited backup options. If you take in June and area not pleased with your scores, you can retake in October.

I hope you can make time to study hard and take it in June. Good luck!

Also, will you apply to schools that require SAT II subject tests? Check the college admission website to find out. If “yes,” they are given on the same June, October, November and December dates. You cannot take both the SAT and subject tests at the same time. You can take up to three subject tests on the same date (each test is only an hour). So if you need subject tests, that is all the more reason you should sit for the primary SAT I in June and then schedule your subject tests for October (and any retake of the SAT I for November).

Good luck!

hey thanks for the detailed reply!
but actually im not that prepared for the June test and hence i wanted to take it in October…also its 99$ for us which is a good amount so i cant take it many times.
Is there no way of simply postponing it to October?

Yes, if really you’re not ready, change to October. You can change your June registration–you’ll have to pay a change fee. See
[SAT Changes - How to change test, test site, or test date](http://sat.collegeboard.com/register/registration-changes)

Good luck on the October test! Don’t forget to find out if you’ll need subject tests–you will want to schedule those in November.

thats where the problem lies! there is no date for october as yet! i have contacted the collegeboard people and they say that the date will be disclosed in the end of may but the last date to change the SAT date is 20th may…
so perhaps i need to take this test unwillingly :(

If the last day to change your test date is May 20, then they will surely have the October date by then. Don’t worry. But please check again. I thought you could change the date of your test until the last day.

If that happens, I’ll be more than happy! I just hope that they release the date before 20 May… :)

This is what the reply collegeboard gave me for my query -

"Mr. Bist,

Thank you for contacting The College Board.

We have received your e-mail in regards to changing your SAT test date. I will be happy to assist you, and provide you with the information.

Please be advised that 2011 - 2012 test dates will become available on June 2, 2011. In order to change your test date from June to the next testing year, you will need to make the change when our new dates become available. "

What now? I need to make the changes by 18 May! ![]()
has someone experienced this?

What is the magic of May 18?

If you are going to be in the wilds without access to phone and Internet, then simply give your current registration and other details to your parents or a trusted friend to handle for you when College Board is ready to accept your change order on or after June 2.

If your concern is fees, you are going to have to pay a change fee no matter what. Are they saying if you don’t test during this 2010-11 test year, your basic test fee will not carry over to the 2011-12 test year? Call again to clarify–that doesn’t sound right.

well there’s no magic of May 18…its just that, that on the site it is written that “make changes by 18 May”.
So if I dont change my test date by 18 May, I would need to give the test after all

Hi, iamthebist, it seems you are stressed about this, but when you realized you needed to move your test date to Oct., you got the answer you needed from College Board: no problem, we can take your change June 2! Hang in there.

You are wise to stay on top of deadlines and read for details. It was a savvy move to email and get customized help “straight from the horse’s mouth.” Those are all critical practices during the college application process. But once you’ve investigated and received authoritative guidance, go with it! No worries! Life is short and all that…

Good luck to you.

Thanks TXArtemis!
I’ll see what happens
But I plan to call them up and make the matter all clear today but thanks!
