SAT practice questions help

problem: rectangle ABCD, E is midpoint of B and C, area of quadrilateral ABED is 2/3, find area of rectangle ABCD...answer: 8/9...
HOW do i get that answer?

since e is the midpoint of b and c, then triangle ecd must equal 1/4 of the rectangle. 2/3-1/4(2/3)=3/6=1/2

wait, answr 8/9, what the heck?

thats **************en impossible. abed<abcd

as icant pointed out, you know that 3/4 of the figure has an area of 2/3. (2/3)/(3/4)=(8/9)

EricaBucknell:
You have a typo, I think. If the area of the rectangle is x, (3/4)x = 2/3. So x = (4/3)(2/3) = 8/9 .

oh. gosh darnit. i got it mixed up kinda
