I took the SAT in October and scored a 1290. I’m taking the test again in March, so I decided to take a practice test from the 2018 blue book today. I timed myself and only took short breaks in between the sections in order to mimic test day. I got a 1450 on the practice test. I literally haven’t studied at all. I used the app and then doubled-checked the score myself. How close are the College Board’s practice tests to the actual SAT? I don’t know how to explain this 160 point increase. I don’t think I was braindead on the October test day because I got a 1280 4 days later on the PSAT. I’m confused. Maybe I’m just underestimating myself but a 160 point increase with no studying seems FISHY
Tests 1-4 were the original sample tests from the College Board for the New SAT. Tests 5-8 were released later, after they were each actually administered, with test 8 being administered in January 2017.
Not everyone agrees, but many believe that this fall’s tests, beginning in August 2017, included a significantly more difficult reading section than practice tests 1-8. If that is the case, that might explain your score increase on your recent practice test as compared to your October performance, though hopefully a good bit of your increase is simply a better performance due to more practice with the test and the passage of time. Good luck!
I’m interested to know about the Math sections in SAT Practice tests. S19 scored 590 in Dec 2017 sitting. Took official practice test 1 today and scored 690. He said it was noticeably easier than Dec 2017 test.
Should he skip directly to practice test #8 for a more accurate math assessment?
He’s also had a couple more months of Algebra 2, along with a (2) one-hour math prep tutoring sessions. Maybe that helped also.
@romns116 As a student who has taken all of the practice tests + the Dec 17 sitting…I believe that starting at Test 5 will give an accurate assessment. Tests 5-8 should be the primary focus and he should only use tests 1-4 for a few practice questions here and there.
Also Dr. Steve Warner’s “28 SAT Math Lessons To Improve Your Score” = m a g i c.
I improved my SAT Math score 100+ points in 1 month with this book. It’s cheap, small, and straight to the point.
