SAT Prep Course vs Self Study

I will be taking the SAT for the first time in the spring, probably in May. I'm contemplating whether I should go through an SAT prep course (Kaplan/Princeton Review) or just buy prep books and look over the material on my own. My PSAT score this year is a 169, which is not where I want to be. I'm shooting for a 2100+ for top colleges like Georgetown.

For those of you who have taken courses, are they worth the $600+? Or should I just study on my own?

Any help or advice is appreciated.

You might want to read my article “Should You Take a Prep Course for SAT Math?” It’s posted on this forum - just do a search.

I really think a course helps. I ended up finding a cheaper course than the big names and was pretty happy with it.
