SAT Prep Courses may not worth their cost

Like an idiot, I paid PR $1000 to prep S1 for Math--one on one. His math score remained virtually unchanged--but his Verbal score (w/ analogies) went up 100 points because Pr threw in the word list as a freebee and he memorized the words he didn't know (in three weeks flat).

We used the same flash cards for S2--who memorized the 150 words in 10 days flat. Same result--a superb Verbal score (without analogies).

I have heard very good results from Testmasters. Unfortunately, they are not doing business west of Texas.

My D improved her overall SAT by about 120 points--granted she was a sophomore when she took it first. By the time she did the prep class she was at the end of her junior year.

The class was offered at a 50% discount through the high school. She received all the materials given in the full price course. She did all the homework and attended all classes except the last one.

She got the flu the day before the last practice test, was sick for 4 days and then 3 days later had to take the SAT! I wonder how that affected her??
