SAT Prep Courses

Hi Guys,

I was wondering if any of you have taken SAT Prep Couses and if so which one would you recommend taking. Did they help to bring up your scores significantly? Right now I am deciding whether to take the Princeton Review, Kaplan, or Revolution Prep. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

The general reception of prep courses here in CC are negative…However, I am going to take College Board online course so I have some extra material to work with. In my eyes, that is the only prep class worth taking. However, if you lack self-motivation, go ahead and take em.

I went to 2. One at Elite, and one at this random place, which was pretty good.

My recommendation is that don’t rely on them. They only help to an extent. I could only boost my mark up to the 2000-2100 with prep courses in the summer, and 4 months before the actual test. The real reason why I scored high was because of my own volition. Every day, I would do 2 math sections, 2 reading sections, and 2 writing sections, using books I signed out at the library, and books that (illegally) I got from the internet that had literlaly hundreds of tests (I do not recommend lol). The week before the test, I did one test every day. Ironically, I did not study vocabulary, which dropped my critical reading mark.

So my recommendation is: Do a prep course, to get yourself to the 1900-2000 mark, and then study on your own volition. At that point in time, you should be familar with the SAT to do it by yourself.

@joeblogsFAILS - I honestly dont understand how taking a prep course classifies me as lacking self-motivation. I consider myself to be a very motivated person so don’t pass judgement on something you know nothing about.

@Radddd - thanks for the advice, I think that sounds like an excellent strategy!

Lol XD. Notice the term if? Prep courses only take the material in a textbook and present it to you in a similar fashion. Thus, IF you lack motivation, prep courses are very useful. However, IF you are willing to self-study, it would most likely be a more effective approach. Private tutors are probably the best option too.
