SAT prep log

I don't know if anyone has done this but I'd like to log my progress as I go through the SAT Blue Book, I will post my scores on the tests(and hopefully show some improvement from test to test :D), and any questions I might have on questions in the book. feel free to comment or anything you'd like

Test 1
CR
Raw Score- 65 score range 740-800
M
Raw Score-53 score range 750-800
W
Raw MC Score-49 , I'm not going to write the essays so score range is inaccurate

My first question,

16 pg 412 of the BB

I'm not entirely sure what to do with this problem(maybe the squares and triangles just confuse me), and it was the one I missed in M section

I’m doing that but with a planner. I do a section every day so I record the # wrong, etc.

Before you post any questions here, look at

For example, your problem is here
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-preparation/154904-blue-book-p-412-16-a.html

oh ok thank you.

also that stems to another question for the grid-in problems in math will they always be required to be in reduced form, as if i wrote 32/10 instead of 16/5 would I receive credit or no?

actually disregard that question there are only 4 spaces available to grid so I assume I should write in lowest possible form hehe

No you don’t need to write in reduced form, but you need to make sure the answer fits the boxes.

Btw congrats on that score! That would probably come out to around 2380, which is phenomenal for the first test.

thanks James  hopefully I can keep it up my goal(probably unrealistically) is to be able to get a fair amount of perfect scores on the later practice tests

did the three math sections (timed, just didnt feel like doing the other sections) of test 2

raw score-54 score range 800 :D

:D I had a good time with this test nothing really stumped me at all.

on a different note, does anyone have any tips to make me not detest doing the CR sections? I open to critical reading and I just think ughh I don’t want to do this… so any tips to make it atleast somewehat enjoyable? hehe

well how do you approach the critical reading questions? do you read the passage thoroughly and answer the questions in order?

hmm I tend to read portions of the passage and answer the questions on them, than answer the questions about the tone mood or w.e that involve the whole passage, after I’ve finished reading the entire thing

Test 2 Writing

Raw Score- 48 , I missed one when I missed 0 last time so, I guess I’m regressing in writing "/

still haven’t done any CR from test 2… any tips to make it more appealing to do? , Just to make it clear I’m not looking for tips to make me better at it , just to make it more bearable

I got a 2250 on my first BB test and ended up with a 2400… so you’re in good shape, to say the least.

For CR, I just try to find something that interests me in every passage. Pretend like the author is talking about something that matters to you. Or, motivate yourself by reminding yourself of the 800 you’re about to get.

Same here.

well that’s good to hear haha, and yeah I’ll try to become interested in the passages I suppose lol

Seriously being interesting in the passages WORKS! I raised 60 points from 740 to 800 by just taking like five seconds before each passage and telling myself, “This is so interesting. I WANT to read this. I’m gonna learn so much! I love (insert subject here)”. If you’re good at convincing yourself, it will work - I’d swear by this method! Haha

haha interesting myself ftw! its been a long while since my last update because I stopped visiting CC anyway here we go (i never really did another full test from the BB but now i have the NBB and just did the full test of test 1 today, timed)

Test 1- NBB (timed)
Critical Reading- Raw-65 - Scaled Score- 800
Mathematics- Raw-54- Scaled Score-800
Writing- Raw-48- MC Subscore-79 (not writing the essays)

I didn’t get perfect on any category other than the math, however I managed to pull off the 800 in CR as well(even though I skipped one I planned to go back on due to running out of allotted time).

Is the general consensus that the NBB is easier, or have I simply progressed a bit?

7 out of the 10 tests in the new BB came from the old BB so the two books are comparable

ah, ok good to know I was worried for a bit lol

lol worried? really?

jubilant - “lol worried? really?”

worried the tests in the new book may be easier and I was getting false hope, yes

Still, you’re in the 2300+ range.
Who needs hope at that point? :)

jubilant - “Who needs hope at that point?”

me :P

I tried to do test 2 today but now I have to leave the house so hmm, I am going on vacation for next week, hopefully I dont forget everything I know for the SAT :P
