Hi,
I am currently going to be a rising junior in high school which means its SAT season for me. I been looking to do some sort of prep for the December 1rst sat. I am stuck between online sat course, private tutoring, or sat classes in person. I have heard a couple of my friends take classes with the Princeton Review or a local sat classes. Which of these prep is most beneficial?
Thanks.
It really depends on how you learn best. I personally benefited more from using a private tutor and getting 1-on-1 help. I wouldn’t recommend Princeton Review if you are looking to get into the 1500 range, because their prep is very basic and surface, great for the middle 50%. I personally would choose either the tutor or the classes, but if you want more personalized attention and are willing to pay the higher cost, go with the tutor. If you like learning in a classroom setting with friends/classmates and don’t want to pay as much, go with the in person classes.
My brother had loved his experience at Princeton review, so my parents sent me there as well. It was nice. They get straight to the point, and worked with me to figure out what areas I needed to improve on. I’m not sure I love it, but then again who loves test prep??
I think I am going to go with private tutoring. Thanks for that info. The only thing is what materials should I be using for content review? I use the college board prep book for the official practice test and khan academy for for my weakeness, but I feel there isn’t a lot of questions. What specific prep books or websites do you recommend?
DS used the Erica Metzler books and then Khan Academy. He is very good at math so did not need to spend any time preparing for that part of the exam except when he took the 3 full length practice exams he did the math sections. He said he probably answered well over a thousand questions on KhanAcademy. He just spent a half hour or so about every day over the summer, except during several weeks when he was unable due to camp/vacation.
He scored a 1550 doing it this way (although not as highly on the actual as he did on the 3 practice exams…1590 each time). He has a lot of experience learning via online courses which probably made this approach ok.
Hi. Thanks for the advise. I haven’t unfortunately seen any improvement after self-studying for about a month now. I just wanted to know what should be my next step in prepping?
Princeton Review is a good choice. PR is affordable and offers solid explanations.
Princeton is the beneficial one.
what company would be the best for private tutoring for sat online?
I would suggest GoPeer - https://gopeer.org. Their pricing is quite nice and you can get a tutor who took SAT recently.
