SAT Prep... want that 2100.

On my 10th grade PSAT overall I scored a 161, and this years I scored a 165... I really would like to score a 2100 or higer on my SAT's. I plan on taking them this year in May, and then next year If I do not get the score I want. Which review book is the best in prep?

Overall, my vote is for Rocket Review.

In English: try Rocket Review, Maximum SAT, Barrons 2400; all excellent. Rocket Review is best as a guide to the passages. Maximum SAT is best as a guide to questions and to answer choices. Barrons 2400 is good for students who are already doing really well and want to do better.

In Writing: Kaplan is (surprisingly) okay. I actually use a GMAT book (Manhattan GMAT guide to Sentence Corrections) for SAT preparation.

In Math: Gruber's, or so I always hear (I teach the other two sections but not often the Math).

Princeton Review for strategies, BB and Kaplan 2400 for content
That's what I used, and I got a 2100 even (710 CR, 690 M, 700 M).

^^^^^
What were your guys PSAT scores though, how much did you prep?

My 10th grade PSAT score was pitiful :P 1610/2400
after intense studying I brought it up to 2300/2400

It's definitely possible

Books I used:
-Bluebook
-Barrons 2009
-Barrons 2400
-Princeton Review
-Direct Hits

Other Materials:
-Online Course Tests
-QAS
-PSAT tests

Wow, that is pretty good

10th PSAT - 136 (anthimmy... a 161 is not pitiful compared to this)
11th PSAT - 178
11th June SAT - 1830
12th Oct. SAT - 2020
12th Dec. SAT - 2120

did nothing between 11th and 12th SATs, it was time/being on CC that improved my score.

my writing score was always my weakest, so i studied up on some grammar rules and voila, it's my strongest section now =D

What do you mean by (690 M ,700 M ) :):)

Is Barrons SAT 2009 decent? I found it on my bed with a sticky note on it that my dad had picked it up for me and sent it with my brother...

Barron's is great for review, but the practice tests aren't accurate. I'd use them while you're scoring low (to reinforce material), then use real SATs to get a real knowledge of the exam.

^^
Where can I get old real SATs?

anyone thinks Kaplan resources are good preparation for the SATS? i bought their 12 practise book and roughly do around 2080 on average. Think i ll get around the same grades?

No, they're not that good. I recommend using the official test exclusively. It's hard to determine what you'll get on the SAT based upon Kaplan tests, you could do better or you could do worse.

oh really? in what sense is it not good? I m taking on 24th and i didnt purchase the official book ..... crappy...

a CC member without the blue book?

didn't think there was such a thing.

Yeah, I'd certainly recommend you get the "blue book", which is the official college board book. The other books are certainly useful for learning strategy and concepts, but they don't really help you get familiar with the actual test.

all rite thanks dudes... i just got myself the blue book LOL....like 3 days from the exam? LOL thanks alot...

oh btw... is it advisable to use "i believe", "i feel", etc for my essay? i read online that some recommend the use of as many personal experience as possible while some suggest the fewer the better

^^ idk, but I think you could say "It has been observed..."

Does this sound like a good plan. Studying now with the Barrons 2009, take the May SATs, see what happens, then getting the Blue Book and Barrons 2400, and study like mad over the summer to take the SATs ASAP next year.
