Ok so im a junior and i want to take the SAts in january so that when i go check out colleges in winter and spring break i can have a general idea of what ill be able to get into. The problem is that all of the seniors and teachers ive talked to have told me to get a tutor or join a class before taking hte SATs because they really do help and you learn stuff and tricks you wouldnt from prep books. My family's pretty low on money so i cant afford a prep class or a tutor right now. How could i get some good preperation without paying

This website is a good place to start! Try a Google search and see what you can find. The College Board website has good prep, like a practice test and a question of the day. For the ones you get wrong, read the definition. Borrow test prep books from the local library and study them. Pay attention in your math and reading/writing/literature classes. Don’t be afraid to start a study group with interested friends where you can ask questions and figure out what you don’t know or understand. Of course, you can always ask about any questions you get stuck on here or where people can help you.

the public libraries are a great resource
check out some SAT books and do your work in a notebook.
the SAT Official Guide by The College Board (The Blue Book) is the one of the most used and most accurate.

if you would prefer to buy the books, buy them secondhand off of amazon.com or half.com

it’s a good thing you found CollegeConfidential, there are a lot of kind people who can help you for FREE!
also check out Xiggi’s thread, there’s a lot of good info in there.

there is so much stuff on the internet. I’ll definitely PM you some of the websites I have been using tomorrow. As for prepping, get the practice SAT from the website (it will probably be at your school’s guidance office too), borrow some SAT books from the library, and make sure you read everything on this forum. You don’t need a class or tutor.
