SAT prep

I am entering my sophomore year. Should I start studying for the SAT now?

only if you plan on taking it in the next 3 months

Its never too early

If you feel you are weak in a general area like math or English, preparing over a long period of time will build a strong understanding of the subject. For me, English (writing and critical reading) are the worst. I wish I had read more books and magazines regularly when I was your age. It will help a lot later on.

So if you have a weakness, work on it for a long time, and come SAT time, you will have little to do.

Thank you. Actually, akahmed, my problem is the opposite of your problem! I've been reading avidly for as long as I can remember. ( I started when I was two. There are days when I read two-three books a day.) But, I suck at math. So, I guess it would help to start working with the math problems now.

That's great news, hopefully the English sections will not be a bother for you. For math, what class are you taking next year? Strong geometry and algebra I & II will help. Really try to work on your perspective in math class. What I mean is, the math is always simple but it seems convoluted , in the test maker's words "hard". Well, you just have to work on finding new approaches to problems. Know the concepts, find new approaches, and then work on your speed at doing this.

Books I would recommend, Gruber's New SAT and Barron's Math Workbook

For practice (you want to do this closer to your actual test day) use the blue book.

And as always, double check your answers, again and again ....

i agree it is NEVER too early. consistently practice all the time and when you take the SATs for the first time, do it as if its your LAST shot so that you do your very BEST on it. after you get the results, if its not high enough than you have time to narrow your weaknesses and if its great than you dont have to worry about it anymore! :)

I took Algebra/Geometry as a freshman. I will be taking Algebra 2/Trig this year. Thanks for all of your help!
