if at SAT, some1 has bettre scores due to english, will that give them advantage given that other person's math scores are well above theirs?
like i got 2100 but 790 math and many people get 750s in CR and writ because of which they surpass mine. I hate that since english is not my first language and english classes are joke in indian schools.
moreover my SAT 2s are good - phy- 800 and chem- 730. i hate it when just on basis of SATs preferences to ENGINEERING programs are given to students with bettre score in english than in subjects which are actually of use in engineering.

Admission to almost all selective schools is holistic. Colleges don’t want students that are JUST good at math, or JUST good at CR. So just because you’re applying to an engineering program, that doesn’t mean you’re allowed to have a low Writing & CR score. Evidently, applicants applying to tech schools will have higher math scores than from the other two sections, but that doesn’t mean that their other sections will be mediocre.

In any case, your application does not just depend on your SAT score or SAT II scores. Like I said, most schools have holistic admissions, so your essays and ECs matter. If your english isn’t good, get your grammar checked for your essays - you will be a very unappealing applicant if your essays are riddled with grammar mistakes regardless of your national and cultural background.

dude, i dont make grammatical errors. my english is not that bad, i m just saying that shouldn’t math be given preference over CR and Writ in engineering colleges.

Okay, first off, several schools do not put much weight on the writing section regardless of the major you are applying for. But this has nothing to do with being an engineering school or LAC etc since some colleges simply do not believe that the writing section is an accurate predictor of college success (for example, Cornell).

Secondly, just because you’re applying for an engineering major, that doesn’t mean that colleges should disregard a low CR score. The CR section is all about critical thinking with the pressure of a small time period, and scoring high tells colleges that you can analyze things quickly in a stressful environment. So no, Math shouldn’t be given preference at an engineering school… it’s clearly ideal to do well in CR & Math if not all sections.
