i received my December SAT scores. i got a 800 CR and 780 M which are great. On writing, however, i only got a 710 with a 7 on the essay. If i plan on applying to ivies, should i retake to do better on the writing and, more specifically, on the essay.

I really think that’s not necessary. Just do well on your essays if you haven’t already.
A 2290’s good anywhere, especially since some schools still place more emphasis on CR + M where you have an impressive 1580.
good luck!

No way, since some schools don’t even consider it and/or take it serious.

The writing section’s important, but your score is good. A 2290 is absolutely superb – don’t retake.

i agree, a 2290 is already fantastic and it’s true that a lot of top schools place far more emphasis on a score out of “1600” (that is, looking more at reading and math).

Hey, I got those exact same scores! I’m not retaking. I think a 2290 should be fine:)

Did you take the ACT by any chance? I did much better on that, mostly because the writing isn’t factored into the composite – hehe! <3 ACT.

no, thats 4 hours out of your life.
