SAT Question

I have not taken the SAT Reasoning test yet and was wondering if the Nov. 7 day was too late. There’s an Oct. 10 day, but I’ll have to pay the late fee, not too mention I would have to re-schedule my subject tests. I really regret not having taken these tests sooner. Any input would be great.

Well… since the app is due on nov 30, and it takes 2 weeks for the scores to report.

I would say the november one would work if u ask the college board to send ur scores to the college.

But I would pay the late fee for october to be safe.

In addition to the SAT, if you haven’t already taken the ACT, sign up for 24th Oct test (by 2nd Oct). Cal Poly likes the ACT.

I always wondered about this, why do they like the ACT?

So like Slo will like a 27 ACT than say a 1900 SAT?

I don’t know why Cal Poly likes the ACT, or what score they would accept over the other - they’re questions best asked of the admissions department if you get a chance.

The difference between the two tests is best described on the ACT website at
[ACT FAQ : What is the difference between the ACT and SAT?](http://www.actstudent.org/faq/answers/actsat.html).

All I know is that my son’s guidance counselor highly recommended taking both ACT and SAT, and I’m so glad she did that. She told us that the ACT is starting to be favored over the SAT by some colleges because it shows how well the student has learned and truly understood the high school coursework, and thereby gives the college an indication of how well the student will learn in college. At orientation, we were told that Cal Poly really wants the student get their degree in four years, which means a heavy courseload and requires the student to have a good understanding of that coursework in a fast-paced environment.

My son got a 30 composite score on the ACT and 1730 on the SAT, so clearly taking the ACT worked best for him.

Apart from these tests, other determining factors for acceptance would be the rigor of the high school coursework (most importantly, maintained in senior year), high GPA and high AP test results.

I never took the ACT, but I did get in with a 1970 on the SAT. But like LGHS Mum said, I think a big part of it is course rigor. I took 4 AP classes senior year, but I don’t think they get results on AP scores until long after you have been accepted.

I think my senior schedule is average.
