SAT Range (I'm funny)

Okay, so I just got my SAT scores back and I'm a little worried. USC range is like 1990 to 2190, or something, and mine was 2000 (580 CR 780 M 640 W). Not only does my score come in way near the bottom of the average, there's also a large range. My Critical reading score is about 80 to 100 points lower than the average at USC. But then I'm good at math, so everything's fine, right? Wrong. I'm trying to get into the screenwriting program. 780 in writing? No. 780 in Reading? No. My best score is in the one SAT subject that is NOT related to my intended major. Also, a 640 for a writing is a little low, but will a higher essay score (10) compensate?--To show I do know something about writing. Also, I'm asian, which isn't really a big deal or anything, but I'm afraid college admissions will be like "Oh, he's not smart, he's just naturally good at math because he's asian, I mean, look at that reading score! HAHAHA"

Melodramatic maybe, okay, completely. And I know USC doesn't soley focus on SAT scores and if my essays are great and I can retake the SAT, but really, I'm just looking to write down my thoughts to help process them.

hahah yeah don't over-stress about this (tho i know how you feel about being asian :.. ). for writing, just brush up on grammar rules; it should boost your multiple choice score a lot, since you're already pretty solid at the essay. for reading, all i can say is practice the test a lot. i bought the collegeboard sat prep book and did a few (like 3 or 4) sections in there, and my score improved by 50 pts. with a little practice, you can bring up your score with no problem :) good luck!

SAT shows the adcoms how "intelligent" an applicant is. For most prestigious schools, it is not considered more important than high school records which show the student's work ethics and essays which show the student's creativity.
