What range of SAT scores are necessary to get into dartmouth if I have excellent academic and extracurriculur records

median sat on the old one was 1470 for '09ers and I think it rose a little bit this year

shoot for 1470 verbal and math

PR reported 1437 SAT for '09, which is deceiving since it includes URMs, atheletes, legacy, etc. You really should shoot for above the 75%, which is 1530. Obviously, many people below this get in, but since the vast majority of applicants have excellent academics and ECs would be a way to stand out, as would applying ED (diff btwn 33% & 14% admit rate).

The ED admit rate is also slightly decieving, though, since it includes recruited athletes and a higher proportion of legacies.

Basically, just do the best you can and as long as you have a decent score, apply anyway.

is the writing looked upon as a SAT II? or are they now looking at them all comined?

I get the impression that W is looked at more like an SAT II than it is like M or CR, since a lot of schools are still reporting their avgs on the old scale.

how important are the SAT IIs for getting into Dartmouth early?

The nice thing about Dartmouth--I don't know about early, necessarily, because I got in regular--but I do remember them telling us at the info session that they didn't want to discourage students from trying out lots of SAT subject tests by penalizing for bad scores. They told us that you would be judged on your top two SAT IIs, and the others would be ignored (which was a huge boon to me, since I completely botched one of my three tests and didn't want to retake it). So if you're worried about the SAT IIs, just take as many as you might conceivably do well on, since you won't be penalized for low scores and can take advantage of potential high ones. As far as their importance, I'm not an admission expert, but I imagine they would be as important at Dartmouth as they are anywhere else--less important than the SAT Is, but considered as a secondary factor.
