Sat Reasoning June 06 - Post All Discussions HERE!

pandora and backfire, did you guys have TWO grid in sections in your test?

Oh, my bad, lol Hey, don't make fun of dyslexics (not really, but :p)

I put tempered appreciation then b/c both amused themselves watching the two weatherman, but as you said, didn't like the "glib behavior" (glib was the answer to another Q, no?). I refrained from unqualified approval b/c "unqualified" suggests that they didn't mind the glib behavior at all, and their approval was absolute w/o reservations.

Edit: do you mean those two sections of absolute hell? Then yes.

im pretty sure it's tempered appreciation. at the end of the passage it talks about how although he feels the weatehrman can be a bit fake/ affected he still likes him and is entertained by him. tempered appreciation i think would describe that kind of attitude. and if you don't buy that, unqualified approval just doesn't make sense. what makes him unqualified?? how can you have an unqualified opinion in regards to whether or not you like something? and with approval it just doesn't mesh. he's not approving of the weatherman (he even says his performance is a bit put on) he's just saying he is merely entertained by and appreciatessss him-- and with the minor drawbacks he mentions, that's what makes it "tempered" appreciation.

Jennyanne89: exactly, I had the same reasoning.

ok backfire the answer to your question;
The Question: IF a number is In X, It is also in Y. Which of the following must be true?
Then you narrowed it down to the only 2 that could be correct which were
1. If a number is in Y, it is in X
2. If a number is not in Y, It is not in X

Ok so the reason number 1 is wrong is because Y can have additional numbers thus not every number in Y is also in X. For instance, Lets say 2 and 3 are in X well then as the question states 2 and 3 must also be in Y. However, That does not mean the number 5 or 6 or 7 isn't in Y and thus they could be in Y but definetly not in X because every number in X is NO matter what in Y.

Number 2 is right because as I said Y can have additional numbers and if a number isnt in Y then it is definetly not in X. Y has every number that X has and more! haha ok I hoped that help

haha my bad I diddnt see someone already answered your question ;)

this is my reasoning-

he quite blatantly said that because the weatherman is a tv personality, he has every right to be glib (yes that was an answer)- which meant that he approved of his behavior without any reservations

but, it didn't seem to me that he "appreciated" the weatherman's behavior, he just took it for a given

but, i may be wrong

what about the black businessman passage- what did you say about the massive census

also the last writing section

the one about clara barton

clara barton, the woman who founded the red cross...

Wow, all of the sudden, I finally find a purpose to my 2-semester logic and reasoning uni course. For the SATs, what else? -_-

I don't remember anything about Clara Barton, having nearly purged 3+ hrs of absolute poison from my brain. But, about the weatherman, the appreciation is for the two weatherman making weather seem interesting with their glib and all. And what about the massive census?

i have two questions:

1) what did everyone put mild cynicism for? I dont really remember that exact question.

2) also, for the last sentence completion for one of the cr sections, there was a sentence about two boys who didn;t like eachother/ fought.. what was the answer? i put animosity, but my friend put veracity (sp?).

does anyone know when we actually get our scores??

June 26 (As promised by collegeboard)
does anyone remember any questions on the Japanese girl passage?

madame.. can u answer my question (the last post on page 50).. i know we had the same test.. ill try to answer ur q now too

it was for the comedian passage. however, i am 90% sure the answer is complete agreement, since it was how the author of passage 1 regarded the opinion of the critics. (which was definietly agreeing)

it was animosity. veracity doesn't even have a similar meaning.

does any one remember the answer to a sent comp regarding a statue and how it affected seeds?

i agree with u on both counts tim. btw, becides some math q's u got wrong and one i got wrong, ive agreed with basically everything uve said, so thats good.

watchadoing - what did you put for the one that asked - "what does the khyber pass represent?"

i put a remote and exotic location, and i really believe it is right. but the majority of people here believe it was a location he would enjoy

my explanation for the reason why i think its remote and exotic is a few pages back

So I just remembered one of the last sentence completions. It said something about how the data was collected through experience and thus the answer was empirical.

o tim.. sry but for once i disagree with u. i put a place that is fun to get lost in. o well

Ohh and on one of the cr passages it said something about what does the "tip of the iceberg represent" in the art history passage and I think it was something about the mass of received ideas about art or something.
