SAT Reasoning Math versus SAT Subject Math Level 1 versus SAT Subject Math Level 2

How do SAT Reasoning Math, SAT Subject Math Level 1, and SAT Subject Math Level 2 differ?

What subjects are tested for each test?

If I can ace the SAT Reasoning Math test, does that mean I can ace the SAT Subject Math Level 1 test? How about the SAT Subject Math Level 2 test?

How do the questions on each test differ or are alike? I mean, is there more straightforward application of concepts or more reasoning involved?

I have just about finished prepping for SAT Reasoning Math. I am scoring in the 780-800 range. I will be taking Pre-Calculus during the 2011-2012 school year. I want to take the SAT Subject Math Level 2 on June 2. (Level 1 if you guys don't recommend Level 2 yet.) How much prepping would I have to do for each?

Thank you.

You probably won’t have to prep for Math Level2 if you get an 800 on SAT Math.

I thought Math Level 2 went into PreCalc while SAT Reasoning Math only required a small amount of Alg 2…

^ you’re right. I remember during prep, my teacher told us that Math on the SAT reasoning goes up to Alg2, while Math 1 has everything in Math 2, except Pre-Calc. That’s why most people take Math 2 because it is better.

Level of difficulty:

Math IIc > Math Ic > SAT I Math

Difficulty in obtaining a high score (700+, high 700’s).

SAT I Math > Math Ic > Math IIc

Subjects tested:

SAT Math: Coordinate/Plane Geometry, Algebra, some Algebra II, basic probability, thats about it.

SAT Math Ic: Same topics but more advanced. Oh, Trigonometry too.

SAT Math IIc: Same topics including More Algebra II, 1-2 limit questions and other precalc topics. 0-2 questions on matrices

Math II actually has some calculus concepts I know I didn’t learn in pre calc (like sequences)

Most people take only one Math. It sounds like you’re good at the subject, so just jump right into Math II.
