I'm in bit of a problem. I took my SAT reasoning test in October (I got a 2130.) I took the Subject Tests yesterday... I was really sick, so I'm not expecting a particularly a high score.

Now Jan testing is my LAST opportunity to do improve my scores. Question: Which one should I take? SAT Reasoning or SAT Subject Tests? Which one do the top colleges give more importance to? (Honestly, I'm expecting a really low score in my subject tests. Like maybe 700. :(

I actually felt like I did worse on the subject tests than I really did. It’s not always easy to tell until you get the scores back.

Personally I’d put more weight on the SAT and not the subject tests. Then again a 2130 isn’t bad at all so if you really want it wouldn’t be a bad idea necessarily to hang onto it and go with the subject tests in January.

There is always the option of the best of both worlds. In that, just take/try to improve on an ACT score. Then you can take both the ACT and subject tests in January (if you plan on taking the ACT at all - you may want to avoid it).

2130 isn’t bad. However, many colleges don’t care so much about what you got on your Subject Tests, just the fact that you went and took them. If you did well in the class in school or did well on the AP in that subject, that could compensate for the Subject Test.

Honestly, I’d say to go with the SAT Reasoning. The SAT carries a lot more weight than the subject test.

Thanks everyone! I just checked out ACT’s testing dates… It’s on December 10th. Do you think I can prepare for it in 4 days? I have no introduction to the test, by the way. The next testing date in February; I’m guessing most colleges won’t accept that one.
