SAT records biggest score drop in 31 years

"The high school class of 2006 recorded the sharpest drop in SAT scores in 31 years, a decline that the exam’s owner, the College Board, said was partly due to some students taking the newly lengthened test only once instead of twice."

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/14569572/

wow how interesting... i would never have guessed.. especially w/ all the prep soo many of us had.. hmm

not all of us...:)

well I guess College Board got what they wanted.

isnt this good news? because now it's easier to get higher scores/percentiles?

That's a good question! It could mean that but it could mean the test is harder.

Will this send more kids to ACT instead?

I think the scores went down because the new test is just too long.

I know kids who got much lower scores on the SAT than on the much shorter but otherwise similar PSAT that they took a few months earlier. I think length was probably the most important factor in their score drop.

I also think its partly because of the new length. I myself find it very hard to sit for almost 4 hours and tend to lose some concentration. ;P

I played counter-strike for 13 hours straight with no food and bathroom breaks. Just to let you know.

yeah but thats something fun. i can do something fun for literally 24 hours straight but give me a textbook then im out after 30 minutes.

"I played counter-strike for 13 hours straight with no food and bathroom breaks. Just to let you know."

I can understand getting carried away with something you like, and going a long time with barely moving. However, most people I know don't like the SAT. :P

Nope. I hated it because it was for practice.

I agree; that test is just too damn long!!!!

It all makes sense now...I studied my butt off on math only and ended up with the same score. I had a feeling the test was harder.

wait what are they comparing it too? We have a new test?

that's good! now the test will be a lot easier in OCT and NOV!!

there is a very interesting article in a recent newsweek about this, also comparing the sat to the act, and the trend towards the rising popularity of the act..

it makes sense, the material is harder, and the test is much longer.

uh yeah... they added the essay and writing sections, and made everything harder (and a lot longer) in March 2005.

I am such a supporter of splitting the SAT1 into 3 smaller exams, and having these exams at 10/12AM rather than 8. I would bet money that scores would dramatically improve if this were to be in effect.
