SAT requirements

Hello CCers!!

I have the question about SATs. The New SAT has a writing section, so if I take it, can I not take SAT II Writing???

That's right. If you take the new SAT then taking the writing SAT II is redundant and you don't have to do it :) one less test to take!

That's right. If you take the new SAT then taking the writing SAT II is redundant and you don't have to do it one less test to take!

So if I take the new SAT, then I can take two SAT II's instead if three? Wow, I did not know that...

SAT-II writing no longer available as of March 2005. Harvard still requires three SAT-IIs.

From the Admissions website (a better source of information than CC!):

Official score reports from the SAT I or ACT, and three SAT II Subject Tests. Harvard College official codes are 3434 for the SAT I and SAT II (the College Board) and 1840 for the ACT. When registering for tests, please use your name as it will appear on your Harvard application. Our testing requirements will change with the introduction of the new SAT I. For the Class of 2010, students may submit either the "old" SAT I or ACT taken before March 2005, or the new SAT or ACT (which must include the writing section). As always, students must also submit three SAT II exams of their choosing. The Admissions Committee will continue to consider all test results in light of students' educational opportunities.

harvard never required its applicants to take SAT II Writing as one of their SAT II tests...
therefore they are still requiring 3 SAT IIs even if you take the new SAT

It required really... from internationals. So only new SAT to take! Very good! Thanks for help!

No, you still have to take 3, b4 it was kinda easier to pick what sat iis u were taking b/c they recommended writing + 2 more.. i know, it stinks

Yeah it actually is more of a hassle.
Before I would have just taken Writing, Math, and Spanish... but now I have to take one extra that I probably won't do as well on.

But I'm still not understanding you Verita... are you talking about the TOEFL? I'm pretty sure Harvard never had different application requirements for its international students...

Candlize,

When I applied last year, they required from internationals, whose native language is not english, to take SAT II Writing + 2 other SAT IIs (and of course SAT I).

Really, I already took three SAT IIs: biology, math ic and math iic, but i suppose that I can't take two maths, i mean they are counted as one SAT. Am I wrong?

Hmm... I wasn't aware of the SAT II requirement for internationals.

You really shouldn't submit scores from IC and IIC because top schools like to see that you've taken a variety of subjects.
