SAT Results and SCEA/EA/ED

The College Board had done something stupid again! According to their web site, results for the October SAT will not be available on-line until November 2, 2006. Most SCEA/EA/ED applications are due on November 1, 2006. For students who are deciding whether to apply SCEA/EA/ED based on their October 14 SAT scores, this poses a major problem. Additionally, those students who are on the fence regarding whether to report their ACT or SAT scores will have to make a tough decision. I wonder if the College Board is doing this on purpose as they must know that most SCEA/EA/ED applications are due on November 1st?

That's unfair! Another reason to hate Collegeboard.

Does it really take that long to electronically grade tests?

I noticed the date as well and think it is simply unacceptable for the CB to do that. I think they should hear about it from anyone who might be affected.

Nothing prevents you from applying for those early decision/action colleges as all colleges having the same take the October test though it arrives after the app date and, in fact, many of them take the Nov test which arrives in Dec. Of course, you won't know the score by Nov 1 which does make the decision somewhat more difficult. The addition of the writing test, which is graded by readers, is what has lengthened the time to grade the test, so you can blame it on the University of California. Several years ago, the UC's threatened to do away with using the SAT and one of the reasons was the lack of any writing test. Because losing California would have resulted in CB's losing more than 1/3 of its income, CB reacted by changing the test and adding the writing section.

I saw that coming from miles away. I think I just have to do better then in Oct.

The College Board is an evil empire. Take the ACT instead.

This is precisely the problem! Why would the College Board not have results back by November 1? I am sure that they know that most colleges have early decision/action deadlines on November 1? Also, I seem to remember that the turn-around time for scores was shorter last year.

drusba is right, you can send in the October scores and be fine... on Harvard's site it says, "November 4: Last SAT I and SAT II testing date for Early Action candidates. November tests usually arrive on time for Early Action consideration." This is without rushing your scores, which definitely implies that anyone who takes the October tests should be fine, it's just a matter of not knowing your scores before you apply. That does make things difficult though, for deciding between SAT/ACT and where you are applying...

I'm retaking the SAT IIs in October, and I'm applying to Harvard SCEA even with less than stellar SAT IIs the first time around, so I don't have any decisions to worry about, I just have to do well on the tests!
