I've taken the SAT twice in 2013. March: 760 CR, 800 M, 710 W May: 800 CR, 740 M, 720 W so I have a 2320: 800 CR, 800 M, 720 W superscore. Both writing scores were with 10 essays. I'm posting because I'm wondering if I should retake in the fall in order to improve my writing score (I only care about superscore schools so I'm only considering superscore here.) I have heard/read conflicting statements about the importance of the writing section and as it obviously differs from school to school, I would like some guidance from the CC community. I am definitely applying to Princeton Early (also applying engineering) and of course many factors come into play, but ignoring those factors and considering that I'm a URM, is it worth it to retake in the fall? I appreciate any and all input, thank you.

I think you’re good, @ahqb8ghs. Our scores are very similar-- I’ve taken the SAT twice thus far and my best score is 2240 (800CR 760M 680WR), and I’m taking the SAT again to improve my writing score. However, I think 720 is decent enough along with a 1600 that it wouldn’t be worth it to take it a third time.

I think your SAT scores are perfectly fine!

No retake - you are sitting pretty. Start working on those essays.

That seems to be the general consensus, thanks guys, I appreciate the replies.

With 2300+, you don’t need to retake as you would not have any section below 700. In addition, Writing is the least important section.

It depends on how you want sell yourself. Super academic or super Extra credits? If you think about it though many people with perfect SATs are rejected so…
