Hi. I got a 2240 on my SATs and plan to apply to Ivies and top LACs. Should I retake this?

if you really want to... i mean 2240 is really good as it is.

Right, I mean I know it's good, but I also know I'm competing with plenty of people with perfect scores. Do colleges differentiate between something like a 2240 and something like a 2340, or just lump all top scores together?

you know harvard and other ivies reject 2400's all the time.

Yes I do, but I don't know whether that is good for me or bad for me. You can look at it either way, I suppose. What's the general consensus on that?

if you know you'll get a 2340+ then i would say go for it -- that is a significant jump...but for those schools you need to also focus on boosting things like ECs because those can really set you apart (although yours might be fantastic, i have no idea haha!)

Look at the common data sets for your schools and you can see what % of 2240s get in compared to 2340s.
Chances go up quite a bit.

It also depends on the breakdown. If the writing score is lowest, you might be fine.

No.
..............

If you have only taken the SAT's once, you should consider retaking. Some schools like to see students that try to improve their score rather than sitting on an initial score.

Okay, that makes sense, standrews. I was actually under the impression that their knowing I retook the SAT would be bad, but I suppose what you say makes sense as well.

Depends...what was you M + CR score?

Math: 730
CR: 750
Writing: 760

^math was your lowest and that is generally the easiest to improve on. retake it if you * know * you can do better. otherwise, don't.
