will schools look on you less favorably if you retake the SAT a ton of times?

If you aren't improving, probably.

I'm pretty sure schools won't see how many times you take the test because most of them get a score combining your three best section scores no matter when each was taken. However, if you don't think you will improve much, it gets to be a waste of time.

Well if you plan on improving when you retake then it isn't really a problem. I doubt they give a damn, to tell you the truth. I don't see how they'd even care if you took it 10 times--as long as they got your 3 best sections. I mean, some people say that they go "how obsessed can you be?", but in all honesty, they have thousands of applications to review, and they probably only give it a little bit of a thought. How many times you take the SAT would be crappy criteria to judge an applicant by--it can mean a lot and it would be a waste of time to try to figure out what it meant.
