What is the best book I can use to self study?

If you haven’t already, I highly recommend getting CollegeBoard’s The Official SAT Study Guide. It’s the best book out there since it was made by the company who administers the exam. It also contains 10 practice exams which will be the closest to what you would see on your actual SAT.

I second the notion of Collegeboard’s Official Guide, but only use it for the practice tests. I find the instructional material in the book very mediocre, and there are a plethora of books and free guides you can use to develop great strategies for the SAT.

Math- PWN the SAT, Dr. Chung’s

Also, don’t just limit yourself to books. You can find copious amounts of sample math problems online to do every day. For example, pwnthesat’s website has great guides for all kinds of questions on the math portion, as well as diagnostic tests and answers to the Collegeboard’s Official Guide’s practice tests.

Critical Reading - Gruber’s Complete SAT Reading Workbook is a solid book. Direct Hits 1 & 2 help nicely with vocabulary. Google is a wonderful tool in finding vocabulary lists. Also, check out Noitaraperp’s guide on these forums, which helped me immensely. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-preparation/750399-how-attack-sat-critical-reading-section-effectively.html

Writing - Barron’s Writing Workbook is great for presenting you with all of the types of questions you’ll see, but not the essay. You can also check out Sparknotes for some free, good pointers. For the essay, I suggest another CC guide, AcademicHacker’s guide on writing a great essay. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-preparation/645763-how-write-12-essay-just-10-days.html

I raised my score from a 1660 to a 1920 just from taking 5 of the BB practice tests and really going over the answers. I expect to get above a 2000 by going through the rest of the tests, so my best advice would be to just take the official tests the college board offers and just review the answers like crazy.
