Some most selective schools that my son is thinking about applying to indicate that they will accept either (a) SAT scores AND 2-3 SAT subject test scores, or (b) just ACT scores. His scores were:
- SAT~700 on each section
- ACT composite = 33
- SAT subject test average on 2 exams: 680
- AP exams: US History=5, English Lang/Comp=5, Biology=5

Overall, his ACT scores are clearly superior to his SAT/SAT subject test scores, and I think he's probably better off just submitting the ACT scores along with his AP results. I would be interested in any feedback others can provide on this issue.

I would go with the ACT. I am in a similar situation myself, and i think its just easier to send n one general good score than worry about getting good scores on all the tests. plus, your ACT is more impressive than your SATs

Id use ACT scores. Btw, you only self report your AP scores, you don’t send them in. However you could send in your SAT’s also, their pretty good as well.

ACT definitely looks a little stronger; according to the official ACT-SAT concordance, a 33 ACT composite translates out to 1460 SAT CR + M, a very strong score. If SAT CR + M are both at or above 700, they provide confirmation. The worrisome part is the 680 SAT IIs. These are not bad score by any means; but they’re not as strong as the ACT 33. I’d suggest retaking the SAT IIs and getting them over 700; then the whole package checks out, and you can send all scores if you like (though they’ll probably use just the 33 ACT because it’s in their interest to score your student as highly as possible).
