SAT score choice?

I took the SAT once in January and got a 2100 (770 M, 710 W, and 620 CR)
I realized that my CR score was low for the colleges I want to apply so I took the ACT and got 33 comp (29 R, 33 M, 34 S, 35 W).
I'm pretty happy with the ACT score considering I don't test very well. If I decide that I don't want to submit my SAT score because I will submit my ACT score, is that against the policy for the schools that don't accept score choice? I will be sending my both of my SAT II's if it matters. If it is, will the 620 hurt my chances or should I just take the SAT again? Thanks in advance

1) You’re fine to submit only one test for school that don’t do score choice. For schools that require you send all results (Yale is one that comes to mind), usually that’s just within one “category”. For example, Ya;e says that you can send the ACT or the SAT and subject tests. So, if you decide to go the ACT route, you’d have to send all ACT results. Likewise, if you chose the SAT route, you’d have to send the results from all the times you took the SAT/subject tests. Some schools may be different, though, so definitely check their individual websites - this is usually what their policy is if they don’t have score choice, though.

2) 620 may or may not hurt your chances, depending on where you apply. If you’re looking at top schools like Ivy’s or top-tier unis or LACs, they usually like to see 700+ in each subsection. A 620 certainly won’t help, but if you have taken and gotten good grades in English classes or the lit SAT subject test, I would think this would make the 620 stand out less. If you think you wold do better in CR if you took the test again, and if you have the time/money/will, then I personally would suggest trying it a second time. One time is usually not enough to get stellar scores across the board.

One last note: you say that you don’t test well… just saying, both of your scores indicate otherwise. A 2100 is still a really great score. :)

thanks for clearing that up!

Only schools that want all scores (e.g. Stanford) that will require you to send both. For all other schools, you may choose to send whichever you prefer.
