SAT Score Delays for "Administrative Review"?

Our daughter took the May 2006 SAT. This weekend she got what looks like a personal letter from ETS saying her scores were being "delayed because they are under administrative review." From the research I've done, it appears this most likely means that our daughter's score improved so dramatically from the last time she took the SAT that they want to make sure she didn't cheat. Has anyone else ever had this experience and if so how was it resolved?

or it could be a mistake in the grading

DS had this happen to him. His 'flag' was for the opposite reason - a drop of over 250 points in verbal. The >250 figure was provided by College Board as the number to trigger a flag on the verbal section. They never said what number triggers a flag, or review, on the other sections.

When I called after waiting the initial week, they questioned me over the phone and learned he really only wanted to improve in math, and as such did very few of the critical reading questions. They then provided his results during that same call. It took about another 2-3 weeks before he got his official results.

Good luck - hope your DD's scores soared!

I managed to reach the ETS people yesterday. My daughter's scores went up by 350 points, and they apparently flag anyone who scores go up by 349 or more for further review. Unbelievable.

It might also be related to the whole them getting sued for screwing up the scoring thing. If you look at the CB site, all the scores have/are being delayed for a week or so, presumedly b/c they screwed up before. I dunno, look at the letter to see if there is any indication it is about your daughter and not everyone. See if it happened to everyone else.

And haha parent2009, you can't go up by 349 points. Only 340 or 350.

drummerdude, 349+ = 350 & above, either way no one would take the time to make up bs

I have read previously that they do flag increased scores of a certain amount, specifically looking for cheating.

The message they are sending is clear: If you plan to cheat, do so on your first test.

easy there azn, I'm not trying to be mean or suggest that the poster was lying, i just thought it was a funny way for the poster or CB to put it

even if it wasn't exactly 349, I think the posters point was her daughter was just barely over the limit...

Didn't mean to confuse, and I'm certainly not making anything up. My post simply had a typo. ETS told me that anyone whose scores go up "more than 349 points" -- not "349 points or more" -- is automatically flagged for "further administrative review". Our daughter's CR score went from 570 to 770 and her math score from 510 to 660. ETS insists it's simply a matter of routine and doesn't mean they suspect cheating. We have no doubt that she didn't cheat because she doesn't care enough about the SATs to bother.

For someone that doesn't care about the SATs, she sure does have an awesome CR score! Congrats!

Congratulations! - and a question: what helped your daughter to gain "more than 349 points"?

also when did you get the letter? was it before scores were out?

dont answer the questions! read the post too fast! sorry

lol i hate when that happens chhc!

The first time our daughter took the test she literally did nothing to prepare, wasn't in the best frame of mind and left probably 1/3 of the answers blank. The second time she took a standard prep course. In truth, her first score was more of an aberration than the second.

I'm retaking the SAT in October because I was sick when I took the SAT in April and didn't do as well as I would like. To say the least, my scores resembled those expected of a person who fell violently ill during the breaks between the test. Regardless, I didn't cancel my scores because I figured, who ever feels great taking the SAT? Anyways, I heard about the policy concerned with increasnig your score 350 points. If you want some advice, refer to this page

Now that your child has been flagged, they will look for a second piece of evidence to confirm whether or not she did indeed cheat. Since it is unlikely that someone called the ETS annonymously, the ETS is probably going to compare her answers to those of the people sitting around her. If they don't find a second piece of evidence, they'll probably release her scores.

Let me know how this works out and how long it takes. Best of luck!

That must have been scary having to wait after hearing they were "investigating" them or whatever. Congrats to your daughter! That's awesome, even if the first time around didn't really reflect her ability, still verrry impressive.

My S got a letter advising him that because of an error got less time to complete his test and he could cancel but college board would not disclose his scores. Actually he got as much time as his peers and decided to keep the test. Got 1310; awaiting June results
