SAT Score Entry

Hey--

I'm applying for the CS/EE major at Cal. I know they ask you to put in the highest SAT score from one sitting, but I got a 690 math on my highest score whereas on a score that was 30 points less overall I have a 730 math. So my question is, can I put in my 690R/730M/710W instead of my 730R/690M/740W?

The UCs do not superscore and ask you to put in your sitting. You cannot choose and select the better ones (superscoring) for your application.

It says that "Critical Reading, Math, and Writing scores must be from the same sitting."

I don't think quixoticrick fully understood your question. From what I understand, I think you are able to put whichever SAT scores you want (provided they're from the same sitting). I don't think you have to put your highest combined score, and can report whatever score makes you look best as an applicant. I suppose you want Cal to see your higher math score (since you're applying to the dept. of engineering), and I think that's fine.

No, the UCs do not allow superscoring.

Let me make up some numbers for simplicity's sake here.

May 2006: 600 CR, 650 M, 620 W (composite 1870)
October 2007: 630 CR, 650 M, 600 W (composite 1880)

You would put October 2007's score in and not 630 CR, 650 M, and 620 W, which would be a superscore and thus a composite 1900.

I realize the UC's don't superscore. However, I don't believe you are obligated to report your "best" score. Using your example, one could report their May 2006 score if for some reason they believed it would be favorable to show a higher writing score. This is parallel to mmeyers' belief that it is favorable to report a high math score w/ a lower combined score.

You are definitely not obligated to post your highest total score, if a lower score would be better for you. For example:

m/cr/w

690, 710, 700 = 2100 composite

740, 690, 680 = 2110 composite

For L&S, I would recommend reporting the first score bcos of the stronger CR and W. I do not know about Eng; however, a lower SAT math score could be offset by a strong Math 2 score.

I would report both scores. Let the UCs pick the one they like.

@99cents: there isn't room for more than one score on the application, though when you send scores you don't choose which ones go.
