SAT score for transfers

I was seriously considering applying to ivy league schools and some private schools like MIT this year as a transfer from a CC but my SAT score really held me back. I was wondering if anyone know how much the SAT score actually counts? I'm just trying to settle the regret I have of not applying anyways...

They generally matter less and less the longer you’ve been out of high school, and some schools won’t require them at all after you’ve achieved a certain number of credits. However, the most competitive schools will still require them and use them in evaluating applicants, so a low SAT score would still hurt you at MIT.

That being said, though, give transferring a shot. You may find that your SAT scores are irrelevant to colleges in light of your grades and ECs.

^too late now =/ Living with regret now…

Why not apply next year?

@caligul, wat SAT score should a transfer have to be really considered by the ivies? or it should be roughly the same as if you were apply as a freshman, i.e 2100+

The SAT scores should be on par with the scores required for the freshman class for Ivies. Ivies are even more difficult to get into as a transfer than as a freshman, so the stakes are even higher.

@caligul Do they allow you to transfer when you only have one year left? Anyhow, some units may not transfer over well and I may have to stay and extra year so I don’t think it’s worth the trouble. I’m satisfied with the schools I got into. Just not ecstatic like I thought I’d be.

Oh, I didn’t realize you were a rising senior. No, I don’t think most places allow seniors.

i’m going to be transfering as a junior so if i was to apply next year then if i got in i would only have one year left. assuming all classes transfer over equivalently…

Yeah, most schools won’t allow you to transfer as a senior. If you want to apply, go ahead and do it. You could also consider re taking your SATs now that you’re in college to get a better score.
