Okay, I want some tremendous help on the SAT. I have all the motivation in the world to increase my score drastically. I haven't taken the SAT yet, however on the Psat I scored a very low score (1320). My goals is at least on my first try is get a 1700 and up. I have about 2-3 month. What are the requirements and materials I will need, that will guarantee to increase my score about 300 points and up? Also I m not willing to do any courses. I will buy all the books I need and stuff. I have been studying for good 2 weeks and my scored went up to 1530 with the blue book. Now all I need is advice to keep increase my score, and significance materials to make this happen.

Hey there! I would definitely check out all the stickies at the top of the forum, especially xiggi and silverturtule’s guides. The Ultimate SAT FAQ sticky also has some awesome guides that you can read and bookmark. Seriously, follow those threads with the common advice and you’ll be golden. There’s a lot of resources here on CC: use them.

Good luck!

Thank you for you reply, Defiantly will check them out, see what I will come across.

Hi,

I took the PSAT in my Junior year and receive a 154= 1540 (SAT) I then took the SAT’s 4 times.

Janurary:1800
June:1930
October:1970
December:2260

I would suggest taking classes at elite or a preparation camp to get the basic skills (check out kaplan online) I basically did a lot of questions, SAT blue book , princeotn review book and the kaplan book so i took about 30 practice tests. I also memorized vocabs for 30 minutes every morning!

Goodluck!!!

That is an amazing improvement you made in your time period. I have just got started with the Kaplan online, ordered Gruber Complete Sat Guide, Barron Math. You think this is a great way to start off with the my prep. If any thing better you have used to drastically improve you score, let me know.

@mmberwa: I think you’re already on the right path! Gruber’s and Barron’s will definitely help you out, along with the BB of course. =)

Started off with a practice sat at 1500, 430 (M) 530 (W) 540 (CR). As you can see, math certainly isn’t my best subject. After a month and a half of studying I got to 1850 610 M, 620 CR, 620 W.

Then I took the SAT two more times and once I got a 720 on writing and the last time I got a 670 on CR, so my cumulative score ended up at a 2000. 500 point increase so definitely possible.

As an added note I only studied for the first non-practice SAT that I did, I just naturally improved on the other two sections, getting me those scores.

How long, how many times did you study? What was your schedule of studying. Any trends when you were studying?

Went from a 2190 to a 2340, mainly doing practice tests from princeton review 11PT book. My recommendation is that in addition to any books u use for content, do at least 1 practice section a day. It will only take about 25 mins and is great practice to get u ready for test day and toc heck ur progress. Also try to simulate test environments: lock urself in a room, use number two pencils, use a scantron sheet, qualified calculator etc. Good luck!

Use the Direct Hits Core and Toughest Vocabulary books to help improve you Reading and Writing score.

Its possible my friend went from a 1400 to a 1800 in half a year so I think you could do it. You probably just didn’t know what grammar rules were being tested or the vocabulary
