SAT Score Improvement

Hi! I just would like some advice/input regarding standardized testing. I took the SAT in October and scored in the 1300s. I was upset with this score since it is rather low for many colleges I am looking at (BC, Villanova, Fordham, etc.) Ideally, I would like to hit the 1450s mark. I registered for the SAT in March. Do you think it is possible to improve 150+ points in 2 months? For preparation, I am mainly just doing timed practiced tests since time has always been an issue for me. Thanks!

Khan, Khan, Khan Academy and Free SAT books from school friends!

Which subject score is higher, Math or RW?
Double your effort on the lower subject score. If you got 680 Math and 620 RW. Every two hours on RW per one hour Math using Khan Academy and SAT test books. Ask around, I’m sure some of your friends are done with SAT books.

Good Luck and Gig’em.

Do you review the questions you got wrong? A lot of people swear by that - pull out every question you got wrong, look at whether you see any patterns. Are you missing a particular type of question most often? Target that type in your studying, practice on only those questions until you feel comfortable with the concept, then try another timed test.

Were you stronger on one side than the other?

If you missed mainly vocabulary questions in the EBRW, go on the website freerice.com and play it every day. Great for learning new vocabulary words and you’re buying rice for a hungry person.

I’ve read many people claiming that they raised their score that much and more. Every person reacts to studying differently, however. The method that you’re using has had very good results for other people in the past but hasn’t worked for others. Will you be one of the ones it works for? The only way to know before March is to track what your score is after each test and assess it at half time, say early February. If you don’t see improvement then, consider a different method.

My math score is higher. For the PSAT, I received a 750/760 on math which was not the case for the real test. Honestly I think I was very nervous and ran out of time for the actual thing. Thanks for the tips! I am DETERMINED to do better.

Yes absolutely you can improve. My D studied for tow months and score came up significantly. She used Khan and practice tests. drill drill drill. You can do it!

That’s great to hear! Thank you! @Veryapparent
