Hey all, after reviewing the faq, I have a question. My college adviser said that colleges look at your best score from "each" section. That means if I take it twice or even 3 times, they'll look at the best score of which ever section in which ever test I took. Now how does that make sense if I have to send in my scores? I can't just send in 1 section from 1 test and another from another test.

Can someone explain this? Or is my adviser lying to me? And it's not just my adviser it's all of them.

Second, is it bad to take the sat more then three times? or was that a long time ago which doesn't apply anymore?

I've heard two versions during campus visits. One college said they would look at the test with the overall highest score. One said they would form a 'composite SAT score' with the best/highest score from each of the 3 sections from all the SAT test results an applicant submits. So, it depends on the school you are applying to.

Theoretically, you can take as many SAT tests as you want. A second and better SAT result would likely prove that you might be nervous during the first test. But a fifth/sixth/... test score that still does not show much improvement would more than likely make an applicant look bad. Remember, a SAT report shows results of all SAT (and SAT II) tests you have taken.

Depends on the college. The UC colleges look to the highest score from one sitting. It might be the highest sub-scores at other colleges. Check each individual website, or send an email to an admissions counselor.

Fyi,starting from next year, you can choose any of your best score to be sent to the university you applied.
I think if you are applying next year it's very good I start early..
