I was just wondering if SAT essay score appears on the score report sent to colleges. Furthermore, if the essay score is there, can colleges read your essay? I got a 760 on the writing section, but only a 9 on the essay, and I wanted to know if colleges would see that.

The multiple choice and essay scores will appear as a sub-score of the Writing portion.

As far as the essay goes, the university(ies) that you are applying to should let you know if they require an image of the essay. If they do, they’ll let you know what you’ll need to do to get them a copy of the essay (it usually isn’t complicated
).

Sorry I don’t have more info… hope this helps. :D

Some of them ask for a copy of the essay? That would be embarrassing if you just made stuff up or wrote about something silly…

Yes, some colleges look at your essay as part of the admission process, as is disclosed by each college in Common Data Set information, e.g.,

I’ve seen the scanned copies of my kids’ essays. I can’t imagine anyone trying to decipher their chicken scratches! I actually thought the essay score on mathson’s second effort was a little on the low side, so if a college had wanted to read it, they were welcome to. (They didn’t.)

Well, thank God I used real examples in my essay!

I’ve wondered about that - how do scorers even read most essays? The scan quality seems so poor that it’s difficult to read good handwriting, much less sloppy writing. Especially in under three minutes. I think my brain would explode after an hour or two.
