I took the SAT in October and got a 2190 (ew) - is it true that the curve is awful for october? And, i want to retake the test in january or may - is it easier, or maybe slightly? if so, which one? Thanks so much :)

I don’t understand this website. A 2190 is a great score, and it’s not going to go against youfor ANY college.

Yeah seriously…I’ve always wondered why people say that they’re scores are terrible and then list they got a freaking SAT score in the 2000s or ACT score in the 30s. You all make me feel like Im ■■■■■■■■. I got a whopping 18 on my ACT and the 3rd time on my SAT I got a 1350…Please

Like hundreds of people have posted before me, it doesn’t matter when you take the test. There’s isn’t one month in particular that has an easier or harder test than another. Also, you along with everyone else on this website know that a 2190 is a good score. You may not feel like it’s an accurate representation of your ability but acting like its a horrible score makes everyone who scores below feel like crap.

Depends on the college you want to go to. If it is the Ivys I recommend retaking it in January and then studying if the score doesn’t go up.

yeah man 2190’s actually not that good if you want to go to good colleges like ivy’s…
i got a 2340 on mine and might retake it just to bump it up to possibly a 2400…so you should maybe focus on the worst section and try to improve that.
and what’s worse is people like you “blaming the curve”. it’s all on you, not the curve. stop listening to people who says october has the most awful curve, because it’s still all about the same test. Just take it, do well, doesn’t matter when.

Yeah, I’d like to go to the Ivy’s… everything else is good, GPA, APs, ECs, leadership stuff. I mean, I was taking practice tests, with less time for some sections sometimes for practice, and I’d get at least a 2300 each time I tried. :\ So, is the curve really the same??? wow, then, what should i do to increase my score??

From my experience, none are easier than the others.

A 2190 is still a really really good score! If you think you can do better, maybe retake it once… But not too many times, because you don’t want to seem, or be, obsessed with one test. The sat is NOT everything, as some people would assume. Your ECs and essays are very important too… Focus on the whole picture, not just a test. And don’t worry about other people insulting your score…(why!!!)

Don’t blame it on the curve…

IMHO - you would be much better off focusing on something about which you are passionate. This will hold more weight in the admission process than a perfect SAT score. If you don’t believe me, go the accepted/deferred/denied threads for all the top tiered schools. You will see kids denied with near perfect SAT scores and kids accepted with scores in the 2100’s. I agree with the poster who said that your essays and EC’s matter. By that, I don’t mean tons of EC’s, but EC’s that complete the picture of you as a student and a person. Good luck! BTW- my son was accepted EA at a top-tiered school with a 32 ACT. He took the test last April. He spent his summer focusing on his passions and not on getting a better score.

I do think the October SAT curve is a bit more awful, but honestly not by much.

The “curve” is not worse or better for any particular test. Some tests may be deemed a little more diffiicult than other and thus what you need to answer correctly in any particular section to get a particular score on the 200-800 scale may vary a little (such as by one answer). However, it would be a major misconception to believe that your score in the October test (or any other test) is dependent in any way on how others do on the same day. That is because CB determines your 200-800 score by comparing what you do to test takers who took the test during the prior test year not to test takers taking the test the same day as you.
