SAT Score

Ugh should i even apply with a SAT score of 1250/1600? I'm planning on taking the SAT again in Dec. but i was going to apply ED.
i have a uw gpa of 3.5 w gpa 4.1 and im in top 20% of my class.

I went to project uplift, my dad went UNC and works and the UNC hospital, in state student, and I a first gen. African. (don't know if those will help me)

Some of my extra curriculars include, NHS, NTHS, Spanish club officer, med science club, orchestra (principle stand for 2nd violin section/played for 6 yrs) tech crew for theater, involved with my church(ushering, CROP walk), done some babysitting over the summer, nominated/went to girls state and some other small awards.

Also is there any difference between ED and RD?

Carolina claims that there is no difference between ED and RD. As in, the only advantage of applying ED is that you will know sooner.

As far as your scores are concerned, I would still apply. Don’t get your hopes too high, though. And apply to other schools, just in case. :)

DON’T APPLY EA! Retake the SAT and apply RD.

Go ahead and retake the SAT in December, but my daughter did get in UNC with an SAT lower than yours. Her GPA was a little higher and she was 5th in her class. She has done very well at UNC, she has not made anything lower than a B and she is a student athlete, so she stays busy. She was not a student athlete until after she came to UNC, so to me you look good, don’t worry. Just make sure your essays are really good, I think the essay prompts are kind of difficult this year but maybe not to you. My son just submitted his application on the 2nd, so we will see what happens. Also, maybe mention just briefly on the optional essay that you wish your scores were higher. It is crazy for everyone to tell you that you have to have a really high SAT to get in, when it is a combination of everything and I believe you have it. If everyone had these super high SATs that went to UNC then I believe it would be a boring place to go. It takes a combination and mixture of everything to have the right atmosphere - that is UNC Chapel Hill. I know a guy who made a 2100 and didn’t get in, so he didn’t have everything else they were looking for to be a student.

Just so you know, UNC accepts November scores for the early deadline.

i don’t understand why everyone on here thinks that UNC has ED. It’s EA people!! It’s not binding!

i have a question about sat scores… on my unc application i put my writing essay subscore as a 9 which was the best that I knew of at the time but the detailed score reports came out 11/3 with the writing essay subscores from the october sat which i got a 12. my question is do i need to call/email them to tell them the change or will they see it in my official score report? thanks

if you send it, they’ll def. see it in the official score report. you could call if you wanted to, but i don’t think it’s necessary.

Thanks to everyone for the good advice! i decided to wait and really focus on my application essays and practice for the SAT.
