International applicant(indian)....class topper for last two years....straight A student....national level athlete(won many national level tennis championships in U-18 category) and some volunteer work with small NGO's....SAT 2160(m-800,cr-720,w-640)....will retake SAT....can afford about 40k a year.....can I count UIUC a safety?

And does UIUC count writing score as in CR+Maths I have 1520/1600…also preferred major would be computer science…chance me plz

I don’t think its a safety, but you have a decent chance of getting in. I don’t see any ECs related to computer science though. Since it’s extremely competitive its almost impossible to get in nowadays without prior computer science experience. It’s even harder for you because you are an international applicant.

@nagintapls their acceptance rate is about 60%…for international I guess it would be somewhat near 30-40%…so I thought I had a good shot…is computer science much tougher to get into?

Computer science is nowhere near the overall school’s acceptance rate. It is highly selective. I believe I read somewhere that it had approximately 10% rate last year.

@nagintapls ok…so that is a huge dent on my expectations…anyway thanks for your help

@nagintapls Also I am a very good programmer(at least very good for a high school student)…so if my computer teacher could shed light on this skill in his letter of recommendation,would that be of any help?

yes

They do not accept Letters of Recommendation. You’re likely a match for CS.

UIUC currently does not use the writing section of the SAT to determine admission. Engineering admission rate overal has been in the 50% range last couple of years and CS is lower than that. However, that 10% figure is wrong and is likely something heard about transfer admissions – CS is currently an impacted major meaning there are fasr more in the program than that which is considerd desirable for the resources avaialblel but that has more of an impact on transfer admissions than freshman admissions. Internationals are considered for freshman admission on the same basis as residents i.e., you should not assume the international admission rate is lower than that for Illinois residents or that you need better stats than a resident to be admitted. Nevertheless, CS admission is highly competitve and no one should really consider it a safety. You sound competive but nothing is certain.

@drusba thanks for your help
