Hello,
My son took the SAT twice and these are his scores:
10/2020: 1st Attempt: Total 1500. Math: 760. R/W: 740
11/2020: 2nd Attempt: Total 1500. Math 800. R/W: 700
So I am confused as to how to gauge where he is. Do I say that he is at 1500 (his highest score), or do I consider him to be at 1540 (Superscoring, 800 + 740)?
It seems most schools allow superscoring these days. In this case, his score is 1540. The colleges on his list will indicate on their websites whether or not they allow superscoring.
With Covid rates soaring throughout much of the US, are you sure you want him to test again? 1540 is a great score… this year, more than ever.
Yes, it depends on the school, which will have the info on their admissions site.
I don’t think there’s any definitive “where is he” as a general definition. 1500 and 1540 are like his unweighted and weighted GPA, two different metrics with different definitions.
My son wants to apply to Stanford among other colleges, and I’d like his SAT to be at least in the 75th percentile, which I think is 1550. The goal for him is to reach 1560 superscore. He is already scheduled for the SAT in Dec and will focus on Reading/Writing to get to 760 or more.
Not decided on if he needs to try again in March (no subject tests then). Plan is to do a couple of subject tests in May and June.
