I took the SAT October 11th, and I am applying to Harvard early action. The deadline is November 1st, and I get my scores the 28th. As soon as I get my scores, I will send them to Harvard, but they probably won't be there till a week or two into November. Will the score arrive in time to complete the application? And should I go ahead and put in my scores from my online unofficial score report that I'll get on the 28th on my Common App? I already have decent scores, but I know I improved this last test, so I want to be sure it goes on my application. After all, I'll need them as high as possible for Harvard.

Wait for them and then if you like them self report on CommonApp, send to Harvard, and email them about it.

@CollegePanda96 Thanks, I’ll do that.

Just to add to this-- is it 100% necessary to email them about it? Two reasons I’d speculate it isn’t:

1) Harvard states on their website, clearly, that they will still accept November SAT results for SCEA decisions. Those results would arrive far later than the results that are to be released on October 28th. However, Harvard does not specify the need for an email when submitting November results.

2) The Common App has space to indicate the testing date for results. Surely, if those dates are filled in, admissions officers will understand the delay in the scores’ arrival-- I have no doubt that they’re aware of when the scores are likely to arrive.

For Harvard’s EA program, like all the ivies for their ED or EA programs, the application deadline is not the test score deadline and it accepts through the November test scores. If you, upon getting your October scores, send them regular delivery to Harvard, you will be fine.

FWIW: The November 8th SAT test results are available to colleges starting on November 25th. In years past, Harvard’s full committee meetings for SCEA Admissions did not begin until after the Thanksgiving break. So this year, that would mean the full committee is meeting December 1st to around December 13-14th – so the November 8th test results will be in before the committee begins their deliberations. So, no worries!

@Bemusedfyz @drusba @gibby Thanks for the advice. I was worried they wouldn’t be in on time, but seeing as they accept November test scores, it is clear there won’t be a problem.

I didn’t turn in scores, and Yesterday, an admissions officer contacted my counselor at school saying she wanted to have SOMETHING from me, even if I am taking the SAT once more this weekend. I’m not at all sure if this is typical, but I would say if they don’t ask you for them, the website does say you can submit them in November, so I would wait. I definitely wanted to wait. is she trying to get me rejected? HAHA. no clue.
