SAT Scores Breakdown

I received a 2170 when I first took the SAT, which breaks down to 600 Math, 800 CR, 770 Writing. I tried studying to bring up my math score, but when, after studying all summer, I saw my math score wasn't changing on practice tests, I decided not to retake it. Will my good CR/Writing scores make up for my terrible Math score at top schools like Columbia, UChicago, and Cal? I'm a first generation ESL (English Second Language) student, and my English grades are all As in AP/Honors level classes, while my Math grades are As/Bs in regular level classes.

Hm your overall SAT score is a bit low for Columbia. I would say it’s average for UChicago and Cal but yeah that 600 isn’t that great =/ generally i think colleges look at your math and cr scores more.

I think you’re fine for Cal, that’s 100 points over their average and they have lots of kids with 600’s. Probably too low for Columbia and a push for Chicago.

2170 is fine. 600 Math would only be a problem if you’re planning on pursuing a science major
