SAT Scores: Do They Expire?

<p>I want to know if the SAT scores expire. I've heard 5, 3, and 2 years, but I'm not sure when the score officially expires...e.g. if I were to take the SAT in 9th grade and score 2400, could I use it for college admissions?</p>

<p>Middle school SAT records are destroyed once the student is matriculated into HS. You can, however, contact the CB to preserve middle school SAT records.</p>

<p>In 9th grade on, it is “counted” and will be sent with later scores unless you do score choice and do not select.</p>

<p>So, if I do well on the SAT in 9th grade, I wouldn’t have to take it again? I’ve heard that colleges only count scores fom 11th grade on, so that’s why I’m asking. Also, what do you mean by score selection?</p>

<p>Some schools allow Score Choice, where you can select which SAT sitting scores to send and which Subject Tests to send. Not all schools allow Score Choice, but many many do. </p>

<p>I know 9th grade scores are sent unless you specify not to using Score Choice. You will need to do some research regarding your impression of schools counting scores from 11th grade on. As I said, I know scores are on your CB record from 9th grade on.</p>

<p>Bump…I was wondering the same thing about SAT Subject tests, specifically the subject tests in biology.</p>

<p>I posted in your other thread about subject tests, but for people still wondering I emailed several colleges and confirmed that SAT scores for sophomores do count (though carnegie mellon says they “prefer” junior/senior). When in doubt, email!</p>

<p>I bombed the Bio subj test freshman year. Collegeboard doesn’t get rid of it… You’re set for score choice schools, but I doubt even non-score choice ones would hold it against you.</p>

<p>From what i’ve read, SAT scores are valid for 5 years from the time you took them. </p>

<p>@Blankk: What does score choice mean? Also, will colleges be able to see EVERY SAT score for EVERY test I’ve taken? Isn’t there any way that college board can eliminate a score I don’t want? How hard was the bio subject test for you, that is, was it hard because you didn’t take AP Bio? Sorry for all the questions…</p>
