If you're an international student, are colleges a bit more flexible with SAT scores, meaning they have lower expectations than for us citizens

I’ve read on 1 of the IVY league colleges(or maybe in the MIT prospectus…I’m sorry I don’t exactly remember) but 1 of these for sure where they had mentioned "We understand that the international students are not much familiar with the pattern of these standardized testings "
But I really don’t think that if the middle 50% range of students of that college have a score of umm supposedly 740…then I doubt if they wold be liberal with an international student scoring below or between 650-700.

Ultimately,it’s the same for all,be it a US student or an international applicant.
Besides, out of 1000s of international applicants …I’m pretty sure there are quite many who get a perfect score;so no mercy!! :-)

students go to UCLA like 1900ish from my school
(and like 2100ish for the Ivies< not so sure tho)
I’m an international student from Taiwan btw ;)

a17717 - Well true, even I’ve read about people getting into Ivies with 2000 or even between 650-700 BUT that actually depends upon what major they want to pursue.
For eg.Getting engineering at UCB or MIT is too tough when compared to applying for medical or any other field.
Similarly, getting engineering at Dartmouth is comparatively easier than the 1’s who wish to pursue arts or lit.
Not sure about Harvard(if the selection for engineering is relatively easier than those applying for business or Astrophysics or lit)
but I’m really inquisitive to know about it but yeah,it basically depends upon the most popular major that college offers. :)

I have a quesiton then: I wanna do bio or bio-chem in college, what r the relatively easy schools to get in? (I know theyre all very competiting, but I;d really like to know nore information abt it:P )

Where do you kids get these ideas? Dartmouth does not consider future major in admitting it’s class one iota. Nor do most ivies. And Harvard does not have an undergrad business program. Do your homework before making such posts!

International students compete among each other for admission as each college has a percentage they will take. Since there are tons of very high scoring internationals they don’t need to lower their score standards. However, if they have an international that is a brilliant top national math champ (something they often get from internationals) they will forgive a lower CR score as they would for an American.

hehe yesss no mercy thank u for the advice!

just one last thing: I’ve got the choice of applying as either international or citizen. If you leave out all the financial advantages of applying as citizen, would applying as international increase my chances of being accepted in a university as competitive as nyu stern or u virginia or fordham?
