<p>I recently was informed that I had made it to the Semifinalist stage and was wondering how close my SAT score had to be to the PSAT score in order to become a Finalist. I received a 217 on the PSAT and had gotten a 2020 on the SAT before. Would that score be close enough or should I take the SAT again?</p>

<p>The number that I've seen popping up the most is 2000 to verify the PSAT's...I have no clue if this is true or where some real facts might be, but this is the best of my knowledge</p>

<p>Personally, I think I'm OK because I got 225 PSAT and 2290 SAT...but my CR/M/W on PSAT was 78/76/71, whereas it was 710/760/800 on the SAT...in other words, the section that I was best on the PSAT was my worst on the SAT and vice versa.</p>
<p>I'm thinking that they just want to make sure that you didn't bomb the SAT, or that you didn't cheat on the PSAT...the PSAT is administered by the school and if the administrator wanted to make the school look good they could help kids cheat, whereas its pretty much impossible to cheat on the SAT(at least where I live, the proctor is such a freak, if you do the slightest thing wrong, such as having a mechanical pencil on your desk, she totally freaks out on you)</p>
<p>Actually I think that you have to score within 350 points of your original. As in if you got 240 on the PSAT, you can't suddenly score a 2000 on the SAT. Don't quote me on this, but CB says they look for evidence of cheating if SAT scores jump more than 350 points. I wouldn't be surprised if this was the way National Merit works. The 2000 SAT cutoff seems too high, for certain states you only need like 204 for Semi...they won't require a 2000 SAT.</p>
