SAT SCORES -- good enough for ivies?

Hey all,

I’m interested in knowing if I should retake either the SAT I or II or both with these scores if I’m looking at schools like Princeton, Harvard, Yale, Georgetown, UChicago, etc., etc.

CW - 740
Math - 780
Writing - 730

Lit - 750
US - 750

Thanks.
JT

Those are really, really good scores. If you’re shooting for Ivies (especially HYPS) you do always want to do as well as you possibly can, though, since the applicant pool is so ridiciulously competitive.

If you think you can do any better on the SAT I, I’d study and retake it maybe one more time. SAT II scores can be left alone.

Your scores are all within the “range.” Having a higher set of scores than what you already have isn’t going to make any difference. Students with much higher scores than yours have been routinely rejected by the Ivy colleges while students with lesser scores have been admitted. Why the discrepancy? Because the quantitative aspect of the college application is just one picture of your qualification and the admissions folks at the Ivy colleges are looking at your application holistically. In other words, you’d be better off spending your valuable time to other, qualitative aspects of college application.
