Hello,
I got a 2210 on my SAT , M800 cr710 and W700
Which is a 1510 on current standards. Is that an acceptable score ( ignoring the rest of my application) or should I redo it?

I would say it’s pretty average, definitely not gonna hurt you. But you have to realize that Huntsman is more about fit. ECs relating to language will be more important than your SAT score
@happywharton These scores are average for Penn. The median for admitted students was around 2260 and the median for those who actually enrolled is prob around 2210-2230. The admitted students median for CR was 740. It is not a super standout score but it is good enough and will not hurt you. If it is your first time taking it you could maybe take it once more but don’t spend too much time on it to the expense of other parts of your application because this score is already good enough.
I read somewhere in regards to Penn admissions, that once you have hit the 700 club (700+ on each section and subject tests) it becomes more about the rest of your application … (and most important is GPA) and this concurred w son’s experience.
Son had 720 Math 710 reading 700 Writing 760 subject tests. Rather than spend summer studying for SAT and chasing higher score, he chose to use all of his time for his EC’s bc it/they were so important to him. He was accepted to Wharton. His scores are low compared to avg, but he also had a overall 4.0 UW and 5.5W along w high final grade in AP Calc, AP lang and 5’s on the APs … so I think Penn could easily see SAT score didn’t reflect ability.
I agree (from a mom perspective) w above posters, if this was your first time taking SAT then perhaps take it again (and you might want to take the new SAT just to see how it is), but don’t stress chasing a higher score… spend the time on the other parts of your app as they will be more important at this point.
@happywharton Also, it depends on your race. If you are Asian, I would suggest 2300+. But other races, your score would probably be fine. Your SAT scores won’t disadvantage or advantage you in the process.
I also agree with taking it again if it is your first time, but there is something you need to be aware of. If you think that you can’t get 2300 + and don’t have enough time to study (Penn sees all scores so if you do bad, they see your SAT scores.
So, I would suggest that you take it only if you are sure you can do better. I mean if you get less than 2300, there is not really much point in taking it just for a 90 point boost. Also, it makes you look score obsessed.
i took it 4 times already though, went form a 1890 to a 2210
Then at this point, IMO, you are good w 2210… taking it anymore and you risk looking obsessed as Penn will see all of your scores and I think I read they suggest only taking it 2 or max 3 times… I would say to focus more now on Subject tests and Focus on the rest of your application!! And apply ED, that is a boost!
@happywharton you should def not take it again. Even 4 times is too much. The general unwritten rule is 3 max. You are good with the 2210.
