So, if any of you insanely read the newspaper as much as myself, you'll know already that journalists across the country seem to be on some sort of a crusade against the standardized testing institution. Anyway, the point of my post is to ask if anyone feels affected by this? Did you expect to do better on the SAT than you actually did? If you have older siblings, did you notice that there was a significant disparity in scores between yours and theirs? Did anyone do poorly on the SAT who is usually considered intelligent at your school?

Affected!

will abandon the SAT

The last time I took the SAT was in 8th grade. I got a 1310 (650 V, 660 M).

I took the New SAT in April 2006. I got a 2190 (750 CR, 740 M, 700 W).

From the traditional two sections, my scores rose 180 points. I didn't think I'd do as well on CR, and I thought I'd do better on M.

Those taking the SAT isn't as much of a self-selected group of intelligent people as it once was; thus, average scores go down.

well, my sister and I each took the SAT in 7th grade. She got a 1010, I got an 1110.

the first time she took it again in 11th grade she got a 1290. I got a 1480 on that scale (she retook and got a 1490). I dont' think my math was affected at all (790). But I do know by the end of the cr section I was thinking "I don't care about whatever this wildcat is" and choosing random answers. So affected by added length? I'd say so.

i don't know why people are complaining. collegeboard said that the sat scores are lower due to less people retaking it. i am pretty sure you people are in the minority.

Indeed, I took the old SAT twice, and I have taken the new one only once.

I figured that since my scores were all 'consistent' it wasn't worth another 4 hours of my life.

many students have been put off by the new writing section...and henceforth, dont want to retake the SAT...also, less students are going into the SAT "cold" they study a little and figure it is good enough so they dont take it again...

I took ACT in the 8th grade and got 96/100 (it was on a little different scale but) I took the SAT and I got 1310. I didnt even take the ACT and I REALLY REALLY regret that. (my bro took the SAT so i just followed his step) i really wish i took the ACT at least once just to see if i could get a high grade or not

Yeah...in 8th grade I took the SAT and ended up with a 1340 (690M, 660V). Took it again in 9th grade and bumped the verbal up 10 points - that's it. And then I tried again last May, and I'm 128% content with my 2320 (790M, 740CR, 780W). I think I guessed really well, since I did better than many of the "smart kids" at our school.

I don't really care about my scores - well, apart from appreciating that I don't need to retake that horrid test or take the ACT. My goal was 2100+, and I got that and then some. I'm not the kind of person who's willing to get a stomach ulcer over test scores.

my score is probably lower than it should be because i am too lazy to go back and raise my CR score again. the first time i took the test i got 100 points less than was acceptable by my standards. the second time, everything was good, but my CR score was 20 points bellow where i wanted it to be. I was too lazy to redo the test to raise one score 20 points. 4 hours of my life does not constitute raising my score 20 points when it is not even guaranteed.

they should change it to 3 tests like the SATIIs. each 1 hour long. and you can either take all 3 in one sitting like the SATIIs or one each month. it also makes it easier to study and raise scores because then you can raise the CR score without having math and writing go south.

Our state has been affected, because our republican politicians seem to think that moving from 50th in the nation (the bottom) to 46th is some sort of great accomplishment. Like, "woo hoo, we are rocking now...46th! eat our dust!"

and even sadder, most of the voters here will believe them and vote for their sorry behinds once again come November.

aww, what state Pearl?

Hell four hours is not that much work... I admit I was feeling a bit tired by the end but I don't remember skimming any questions because of it. I did take a bunch of practice tests to prep myself, perhaps too many people just weren't ready to concentrate for that length of time.

I got a 2310. Three of my classmates got 2400. Which totally took away any glory I had.
