So, if any of you insanely read the newspaper as much as myself, you'll know already that journalists across the country seem to be on some sort of a crusade against the standardized testing institution. Anyway, the point of my post is to ask if anyone feels affected by this? Did you expect to do better on the SAT than you actually did? If you have older siblings, did you notice that there was a significant disparity in scores between yours and theirs? Did anyone do poorly on the SAT who is usually considered intelligent at your school?

From a personal perspective, I think the SAT has gotten easier this past year. A ton of stupid kids actually scored 2340, 2380, and 2400. That may be just my school, though.

I don't know. I did well, but since I live in the Midwest, most people I know are taking the ACTs.

I'd did extremely well, but my performance is a very poor representation of my area in general, especially since most southerners take the ACT.

I'm happy, worse scores for other applicants means better chances for me.

A ton of stupid kids actually scored 2340, 2380, and 2400. What a dbag comment prowess. Clearly, these kids are not stupid so get off your high horse.

i got a 1,580. SO much lower than i expected.

i blame Bush =DDDD

Nah. SAT is like any test. You can prep for it just liek you can prepare for a biology test or ACT. Know your stuff and 2400 is possible. They may have been stupid, but prep helps.

i took it in June (?) early summer... and I did a lot worse than I expected (I scored 70 points lower than my average!)... i'm retaking for hopefully a higher score...

um, no, you cant prep for SATs like any other test. you have to have logic. prepping and practicing could probably raise your score by a hundred or two, but it's not gonna turn an 1800 into a 2300. Personally, I got a 2260 without studying at all. Could I get a 2400? yeah. Will I bother? No. It's not worth the effort.

^^^^ true. i memorized over 500 SAT Vocab Words, studied math, english, and so many other things but could only end up with a 1,580. i seriously expected at least a 2,000 with my effort. but the thing is that i only saw one word from the 500 SAT Words i studied. my efforts went to waste

andrw313: I'm on my high horse, and loving it, thank you very much.

Although I wouldn't have put it the way andrw313 put it Prowess, he's right. "Stupid" kids do not get 2340, 2380, 2400 scores. Just because someone acts like an idiot to get laughs doesn't mean he really is an idiot.

"I'd did extremely well, but my performance is a very poor representation of my area in general, especially since most southerners take the ACT."

That's all I hear, but I live in the South and very few kids take the ACT here. Everybody is going for the SAT....most don't take the ACT cause their scared of the science i guess.

That was kinda stupid though (no offense). I mean, from what I have seen the SAT verbal is more about understanding the conotations that a word is used in than knowing words themselves. Of course a great vocabulary helps a lot, but that should be acquired through constant reading, not studying,
